Public Consultation on Chemical Detection and Efficacy Evaluation Methods in Cosmetics

On November 12, 2020, the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC), the Center for Medical Device Standards Management of NMPA, released 7 technical draft proposals for detecting chemical agents and the evaluation of efficacy claims in cosmetic products:

  • Methods for the detection of boric acid and borate in cosmetics (draft)
  • Methods for the detection of 32 hair dyes such as p-phenylenediamine in cosmetics (draft)
  • Methods for the detection of 15 hair dyes including 2-amino-4-hydroxyethylaminoanisole sulfate in cosmetics (draft)
  • Methods for the detection of retinoic acid and its derivatives in cosmetics (draft)
  • In vitro mammalian cell micronucleus test (draft)
  • Evaluation method for the cosmetic efficacy of freckle whitening (draft)
  • Evaluation method for the cosmetic efficacy of anti-hair loss (draft)

The flurry of draft proposals follows hot on the heels of the introduction of the new CSAR this year.
