On July 31, 2020, the Beijing MPA (Medical Products Administration) made an announcement to implement stricter supervision on medical cosmetology products.
Based on a notice issued by the NHC (National Health Commission) and other eight ministries and commissions, the Beijing MPA came up with a series of requirements including, but not limited to the following:
- Medical cosmetology services must be provided by an attending physician or licensed doctor in a legally appointed medical institution
- Selling or manufacturing class II and III medical devices without obtaining the registered marketing approvals is prohibited
- Medical cosmetology product advertisements should abide to the advertising laws of medical devices, and reviewed by the administrative department of the NHC (National Health Commission) for the approval to publicize
Although applicable only to Beijing, as a very influential MPA other provincial MPAs are likely to implement similar measures in future.
