According the online information platform of the Chinese authority National Standardization Administration (SAC) of the State Administration for Market Regulation involved parties revising the standard GB 16897 “Structure, performance requirements and test methods of brake hoses” (and brake tubes) proposed the implementation of the new revision for July 1, 2023.
The publishing date of this update is not clearly stated by SAC. We assume it was published end of February or beginning of March 2023.
GB 16897 is under revision since December 2018 and undergoing the last steps of the approval process now. With the implementation it will supersede the current revision GB 16897:2010.
This update will affect:
- Vehicle manufactures for their China national road homologation in China as well as their CCC certification (China Compulsory Certification).
- Manufacturers of brake hoses and tubes which are required by vehicle manufacturer to obtain or maintain voluntary product safety certifications (e.g. from the organizations CCAP, CQC or CAC).
- Test laboratories as they will require a new accreditation.
Before an application can be submitted for a new certification or to update an existing one, the accredited Chinese certification organizations are required to stipulate how they will implement the new revision of the standard for a certification. I.e.:
- definition on what date applications according to the new standard revision are accepted;
- the transition time to update existing certificates (usually min. 6 months) and until what deadline it has be completed to maintain the affected certificate validity;
- and whether all test items of the standard need to be completed for updating an existing certificate.
According to the last publicly available draft of 03/June/2020 the following changes are expected in the to be implemented new revision (excerpt and free English translation from the Chinese original):
“The following are the major changes when compared to the GB 16897-2010 Brake Hoses – Structure, Performance and Test Methods.
