Illegal and non-compliant medical device online sales were reported by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on June 30, 2023.

- Tang Moulong’s Unauthorized Sale on Meituan Delivery Platform
On February 2, 2023, the Chongqing Yuzhong District Market Supervision Administration inspected Tang Moulong’s business, “Weiyu Trading Department,” based on the NMPA’s monitoring platform tip-off. The investigation revealed that Tang Moulong was selling class III medical device “Human Immunodeficiency Virus Antibody Test Kit (Colloidal Gold Method)” on the Meituan platform without obtaining the required medical device operating license. This action violated Article 42 of the “Medical Device Supervision and Management Regulations.” Consequently, the Chongqing Yuzhong District Market Supervision Administration imposed an administrative penalty on Tang Moulong.
- Haite Cosmetics and Beauty Store’s Unauthorized Sales on WeChat Mini-Program Store
On June 30, 2022, the Beihai City Market Supervision Administration conducted an inspection on Haite Cosmetics and Beauty Store, following a tip-off from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Drug Administration. The investigation revealed that the store was selling class III medical devices, including “Soft Hydrophilic Contact Lenses” and “Multi-Function Care Solution for Contact Lenses,” on the WeChat mini-program store “Haite Cosmetics Beihai Store” without the required medical device operating license. This action violated Article 42 of the “Medical Device Supervision and Management Regulations,” leading to an administrative penalty imposed by the Beihai City Market Supervision Administration.
- Hangzhou Pinxuan Supermarket’s Unauthorized Sales on Ele.me Platform
On December 1, 2022, the Hangzhou Shangcheng District Market Supervision Administration conducted an inspection on Hangzhou Pinxuan Supermarket following a consumer report. The investigation found that the supermarket was selling class III medical device “Natural Latex Rubber Condom Containing Benzocaine” on the Ele.me platform without obtaining the necessary medical device operating license. This action violated Article 42 of the “Medical Device Supervision and Management Regulations,” resulting in an administrative penalty imposed by the Hangzhou Shangcheng District Market Supervision Administration.
- Chengdu Zhao Yixi Trading Co.’s Lack of Medical Device Registration Display on Youzan Platform
On January 3, 2023, the Chengdu Wenjiang District Market Supervision Administration inspected Chengdu Zhao Yixi Trading Co. based on a tip-off from the NMPA’s monitoring platform. The investigation revealed that the company was selling “Soft Hydrophilic Contact Lenses” on the Youzan platform without displaying the medical device registration certificate. This action violated Article 10 of the “Measures for the Supervision and Management of Medical Device Online Sales,” leading to an administrative penalty imposed by the Chengdu Wenjiang District Market Supervision Administration.
- Jiangxi Kangqiancheng Medical Device Co.’s Noncompliance on Tmall
On July 27, 2022, the Ganzhou City Market Supervision Administration conducted an inspection on Jiangxi Kangqiancheng Medical Device Co., following a lead from the Jiangxi Provincial Drug Administration. The investigation revealed that the company was selling “Sterile Dressings” and other medical devices on Tmall without displaying the required medical device registration certificate. Despite being warned, the company failed to rectify the issue. This action violated Article 10 of the “Measures for the Supervision and Management of Medical Device Online Sales,” leading to an administrative penalty imposed by the Ganzhou City Market Supervision Administration.
- Quanzhou Jianning Pharmacy’s Lack of Registration Display on JD.com
On January 13, 2023, the Jinjiang City Market Supervision Administration inspected Quanzhou Jianning Pharmacy following a tip-off from higher authorities. The investigation found that the pharmacy was selling “Universal Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor Cuffs” and “Drainage Bag Bile External Medical Disposable Anti-Reflex Anti-Backflow Urine Collection Bag” on JD.com without displaying the medical device registration certificate and filing credentials. This action violated Article 10 of the “Measures for the Supervision and Management of Medical Device Online Sales,” leading to an administrative penalty imposed by the Jinjiang City Market Supervision Administration
